Are you one of the 56% that is angered by
this?
My wife hates my driving. Anyone who is driving behind me also hates the way I drive. I drive like a little old lady, I'm never in any hurry, and I go the speed limit. Typically, I never go over the speed limit; thus, I've never had a speeding ticket.
So, I was driving the other day, minding my own business. Suddenly, this maniac cut over two lanes of traffic and came flying up next to me. He then dared to give my wife and me the finger, which got me so angry. I wanted to chase him down and give him a piece of my mind. BUT, then I
thought about road rage. Road rage doesn't suit me at all. And this got me thinking about driving and our image as a whole.
How you handle yourself behind the wheel says a lot about how you handle your business and regular life. If you're the type of guy who's flipping people off, getting road rage, not allowing people to merge, or just being a jerk behind the wheel, I have a sneaky suspicion that you're a jerk and
other areas of your life.
We talk a lot about courtesy, being a gentleman, and being decent people. Well, those qualities also need to extend when we're driving. Allow people to merge. And if someone allows you to merge, make sure you wave to
say 'thank you.'
And that's a pet peeve of mine-- when I let drivers in, they never acknowledge that I let them merge. Show gratitude, gentlemen.
Typically road rage is triggered by distracted driving, getting cut off, or another driver being aggressive. Men are more likely to experience road rage: 56% of men as compared to 44% of women experience road rage. Men between 35 and 50 years old are most often road ragers; although,
male teenagers are the most aggressive drivers.
Here are some more interesting facts regarding road rage. Typically people driving blue or black cars are the most prevalent demonstrating road rage. Further, the top three car brands operated by road ragers are BMW, Land Rover, and Audi.
Two out of every three traffic fatalities occur because of aggressive driving, and road rage has been the cause of over 12,000 preventable injuries. Up to 1,500 people are killed or injured in road rage each year, and less than 15% of sample drivers believe driving 10 miles an hour over the speed limit is dangerous.
If you are in a road rage situation, the best action is to:
Remain calm and focus on getting to your destination safely.
Do not engage with the other driver and do not return gestures or remarks.
Avoid eye contact, and keep seat belts buckled in case of unexpected braking.
Call 911 when you safely reach your destination. If possible, provide a time, date, location, license plate, vehicle description, and driver description.
Write down or provide a fully detailed report of the incident and prepare to appear in court if necessary.
If someone is following you due to a road rage situation, avoid going to your home and try to pull into a police station, fire station, or another heavily populated area.
I really want you to focus on paying attention to being considerate of others while you're driving. Also be safe! Drive the speed limit and don't drive crazy all over the place because you'll eventually get a ticket or worse ... crash into somebody. Definitely pay attention when you're driving
and be a decent person. It's part of your image.
Let's take a deep breath while driving and remain in control. This is for your safety as well as others. We need to be conscious of our actions, especially when driving. The way you handle yourself behind the wheel directly reflects you and the person you are outside of the car.
Alpha M. POST of the
WEEK
The picture on the left, I’m probably 26. The right was four weeks ago, which I’m 34. It just goes to show how easily we as men can slip into a lifestyle that leaves us tired and unfulfilled. I found alpha m and then the group. Later on, I met some close friends who I work-out with, and like most of us in this group, I
feel like I’m aging in reverse. We haven’t yet hit our prime, gentlemen. Never stop chasing that better version of yourself.
This post came from Alpha M. Consulting Facebook group which features all types of engagement- from fitness and style, to grooming and dating. Want to be part of the action? We'd love to have you. Join in the conversation ALPHA M. FACEBOOK
