I want to discuss a topic that I've been thinking a lot about lately relating to your future and also to my future. It is the idea and concept of success. I want to feel successful or find success whether it's school, work, or relationships. But I have come to realize that giving advice about how to be successful is extremely difficult. Success is a moving target. It will change depending on
your experiences and your definition of success.
When I was younger, I thought that the only thing that would make me feel fulfilled and happy was opening a chain of nutrition stores and fitness centers. When those exploded and failed, the hardest part was that I no longer knew what success was. That target of success just moved. I couldn't find it! I had no idea what it was.
I have now come to realize success for me is doing what I love, being able to support myself and my family, and feeling like I'm making a difference in the world. I feel super successful but I see all of these coaches and self-proclaimed experts giving advice on how to find your success. Nobody can determine what success is going to look like for you except you.
But there is one secret that will ultimately lead you to being successful in whatever you choose. The secret is: don't be lazy. For anyone to be successful, they cannot be lazy.
Here's my success analogy. Success is like a journey on a road which you have no idea where it leads and ultimately ends up. But you have to start the journey and take the first step. You can't be lazy with your actions. You have to go down the road and keep moving forward.
But here's the thing: you can not stray off that road and sit on your couch. You can't play it 'safe' either because you won't reach your destination. It's okay to start the journey and not know where it's going to end up but you have to constantly be educating yourself and asking questions. The only true way you're going to find your passion and what makes you happy and fulfilled is to
educate yourself. Seek knowledge.
Experience in the world has never been easier. In the past decades, to get information you'd have to read books or go to college. I hate reading books, and I really wasn't great at college. But, in the world today, there is no excuse for not being able to learn. Amazing resources are online. Sure, you have to sift through a lot of crap to find hidden gems but the whole point is you never know where your inspiration is going to come from.
Fifteen years ago, I wouldn't have imagined that I would be as happy and fulfilled as I am right now, making videos and talking to a camera. That was not what success look like to me, but apparently, the universe decided otherwise.
If I hadn't kept an open mind and if I hadn't sought out knowledge, I have no idea where I would be. When I got my video camera as a gift, I was at least tech savvy person you'd ever meet. But here I am now making videos and operating businesses that are all pretty much technology driven.
You never know where your success is going to be found. The only way you're going to find it is if you keep trying. If you get knocked down or kicked in the teeth by life, get your ass back up. Do all you need to do in order to find your success. And remember the number one secret to success is not to be lazy.
