Your Influence on Younger Men Is Greater Than You Think
Whether you realize it or not, you are being watched. Every move, every word, every reaction — someone younger is paying attention. That young man at work, your son, your nephew, your teammate, or
the kid at the gym — they’re observing how you handle life. And the big question is: are you showing up as the man you wish you had around when you were younger?
Being an example isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present, being intentional, and being real. Young men today are facing a storm of confusion, identity crises, and weak messaging about what it means to be
strong and kind at the same time. And that’s where YOU come in.
Whether you’re a father, a coach, a team lead, or just a dude at the barbershop — you’ve got an opportunity -- a chance to help shape, guide, and support the next generation of men. That’s not pressure — that’s purpose. And a man with purpose is unstoppable.
Model self-respect. Younger guys don’t need another guy who flexes fake confidence or tries to
be “cool.” They need to see a man who respects himself. That means how you dress, how you speak, how you carry yourself, how you treat your body — it all matters. You can't tell them to respect themselves if you don’t even respect you.
Show emotional control. Life’s gonna throw crap at you. But if every time something doesn’t go your way you explode, complain, or play the victim — what are you teaching them?
Young men need to see strength that includes self-mastery. Be calm under pressure. Be composed when angry. Be honest when you’re hurting — but don’t stay stuck there.
Live with
integrity. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Don’t lie, don’t cut corners, and don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. Whether you’re in a relationship, a job, or just interacting day-to-day — be the guy who can be trusted. Young men will mirror your consistency more than your charisma.
Lift them up instead of tearing them down. We’ve got enough critics out
here. Be the encourager. Be the man who says, “You got this,” or “I believe in you.” Be the guy who helps correct mistakes without crushing spirits. That’s power. Real power.
Lead by example in discipline. Discipline is one of the least sexy but most essential traits in a man. Show up on time. Keep your word. Stick to your commitments. Younger men are watching if you follow through — not just if you talk
big.
Let them see your growth. Don’t pretend you have it all figured out. Share your struggles. Share how you’re learning, improving, reading, training, and growing. That humility mixed with confidence is the exact balance we all need more of in this world.
Set a vision. Whether you’re mentoring one guy or leading a team of twenty — show them how to set goals, create routines, and push past obstacles. Show them what a focused man looks like. Clarity is contagious.
Respect others, especially women. Young men need to see what healthy masculinity looks like. Be courteous. Be firm when needed, but
never controlling. Respect boundaries. Respect different perspectives. That’s real manhood.
Have a
backbone. Don’t be afraid to stand up for what’s right, even if it’s unpopular. The younger generation needs to see courage in action. Whether it’s calling out BS at work or standing by your values when it's inconvenient — show them it’s okay to be bold with honor.
Pour into them. Invite them to lunch. Ask how they’re doing. Offer advice without being condescending. Be a presence they can rely on. Because at
the end of the day, being a man of influence is less about status and more about service.
Being an example isn’t a job — it’s a lifestyle. It’s the way you live day in and day out, with intention, with heart, and with fire. If every man took this seriously, imagine the kind of men we’d raise up. So to all the leaders, fathers, friends, coaches, and colleagues out there — your
influence is real. The world needs you to step up, not just speak up. Don’t wait for a title. Be the man now.
