WARNING! Dangerous people are on the road -- but I am not one of them. Let me tell you a little story. First of all, my wife hates my driving. Anyone who is driving behind me also hates the way I drive. I drive like a little old lady, I'm never in any hurry, and I go the speed limit. Typically I never go over the speed
limit, and thus, I've never had a speeding ticket.
So I was driving the other day, minding my own business, when all the sudden this guy comes flying-up next to me and cuts over two lanes of traffic. He then has the audacity to give my wife and me the finger which got me so angry. I wanted to chase him down and give him a piece of my mind, BUT then I thought about road rage. Road rage doesn't suit me at all. And this got me thinking about driving and our image
as a whole.
How you handle yourself behind the wheel says a lot about how you handle your business and regular life. If you're the type of guy who's flipping people off, getting road rage, not allowing people to merge, or just being a jerk behind the wheel, I have a sneaky suspicion that you're a jerk and other areas of your
life.
We talk a lot about courtesy, being a gentleman, and being decent people. Well, those qualities also need to also extend when we're driving. Allow people to merge. And if someone allows you to merge, make sure you wave to say βthank youβ. And that's a pet peeve of mine-- when I let drivers in and they never acknowledge the fact that I let them merge. Show gratitude, gentlemen.
Typically road rage is triggered by distracted driving, getting cut off, or another driver being aggressive. Men are more likely to experience road rage: 56% of men as compared to 44% of women experience road rage. Men between 35 and 50 years old are most often road ragers; although, male teenagers are the most aggressive drivers.
Here are some more interesting facts regarding road rage. Typically people driving blue or black cars are the most prevalent demonstrating road rage. Further,
the top three car brands driven by road ragers are BMW, Land Rover, and Audi.
Two out of every three traffic fatalities that occur are because of aggressive driving, and road rage has been the cause of over 12,000 preventable injuries. Up to 1,500 people are killed or injured in road rage each year, and less than 15% of sample drivers believe driving 10 miles an hour over the speed limit is dangerous.
I really want you to focus on paying attention to being considerate of others while you're driving. Also be safe! Drive the speed limit and don't drive crazy all over the place because you'll eventually get a ticket or worse ... crash into somebody. Definitely pay attention when you're driving and be a decent person. It's part of your image.
So let's take a deep breath when we're driving and remain in control. This is for your safety as well as others. We need to be conscious of our actions especially when we're driving.
The way you handle yourself behind the wheel is a direct reflection of you and the person you are outside of the car.
