Spot the Style Mistake | Round Three
Welcome to the 3rd round of Spot the Fashion Mistake! This one is quite SHOCKING compared to the first two.
I was in Starbucks the other morning to pick up some coffee. I was minding my own business -- which generally, I am the only person there this early in the morning. The same regulars come in every day, but on this particular day, a gentleman (and I am using that term lightly) comes in that I haven’t seen before.
As he enters, I notice his feet. He’s wearing flip flops, and his toenails were long. Plus, he was in desperate need of a pedicure – those calluses and dried skin. Oh my! All he needs to do are these three quick-and-easy steps: 1. Get rid of the calluses with a pumice stone in the shower. 2. Use heel balm such as Flexitol, which I use to alleviate calluses cracks, scratchy feet, and rough heels. 3. And most importantly, keep those bad-boys trimmed weekly! Super long toenails are repulsive!
Okay, now to the BIG MISTAKE. At some point, he passed me, and are you kidding me!?!? This is what I
saw!
How does he not feel that his butt cheeks are hanging out!? As if the quarter crack wasn’t bad enough, after he continued to walk, HALF of his butt cheeks hung out of his pants. Did he not feel it? Did he not care? He obviously didn’t care about grooming his feet, so I suppose he didn’t care about his pants
either.
Straight-forward and direct, here’s what you do NOT want in men’s jeans:
Sagging pants -- put a polished presentation together, which means pull your pants up!
Ripped out knees, holes, or long threads hanging out anywhere.
Jeans that taper, ending with a tight ring around your ankle.
Denim that’s been
acid-washed.
Designer pockets on your rear -- not a great image to attract women.
So what do you WANT in men’s jeans?
Jeans that fit your hips -- nothing tight!
Natural colors, including dark blue, medium blue, light blue. Stay away from white, black, and tan.
A length that reaches the top part of your shoe sole at least (reaches the heel if wearing boots)
Stonewashed -- which is not the same as acid-washed.
My favorite brand of jeans is the GAP because of price, simplicity, tons of fits
& washes, and versatility (the work for all ages). They are simply solid jeans. The most common jean fits – and what I recommend:
Skinny – mid-rise, sits low on the waist, and skinny through leg and opening. It’s for the guy without a lot of junk-in-the-trunk. These jeans don’t have much play.
Slim – mid-rise, sits low on the waist, and slim through thigh and opening. It has a little more room for those with a bit more meat in the booty or thigh. It’s a bit looser but streamline.
Straight – slightly larger and longer mid-rise, looser through thigh and opening. It’s a common option that men find comfortable. The difference between straight and slim is a half-inch!
Boot – mid-rise, lower leg dimension as straight, flairs slightly at the opening. Allows for the jean to open over the shoe and boot. I prefer the Slim Boot (thinner through the leg).
Standard – these are your daddy’s jeans! Regular rise, lots of extra room in the crotch, pulls up to the belly-button, slightly relaxed through thigh, straight opening. There are better options for most of you. Standard Taper is another option – regular rise, wider thighs, tapers from knee down. Looks less baggy and
dumpy.
Relaxed – these are, quite frankly, dumpy… they are just BIG! Big rise, big thighs, big everywhere. Try a slimmer fit if you are wearing this fit! You will look so much better in better-fitting jeans.
Take pride in your image -- keep your toenails clipped, keep your feet free of calluses & dry skin, and make sure your clothes fit you properly. And
by all means, if you need to wear a belt, wear one -- especially if you are going to go commando!
