Congratulations! You successfully made it through 2020! That was a rough ride for many of us. And now we're off to 2021.
We're into the new year, and it is a time for new goals and new achievements -- and I expect you to achieve and reach those goals. The deal is New Year resolutions never work. The reason is we set ourselves up for failure from the start.
The New Year is here -- we're motivated and determined to make it a good one. You may be determined to lose weight or get into better shape. It may be that you want to quit smoking or eat better. You may want a better job or make more money. Whatever your New Year's resolution is, we end up falling and failing because we get overwhelmed that we don't stick to it.
What I recommend is picking one thing this year. Don't think of it as a resolution -- think of it as a lifestyle adjustment.
So think back to last year at this time. What was your New Year's resolution? Exactly! The same one that you're about to embark on this year. Well, what would have happened if you had just stuck with that goal? You would have been successful! You would have conquered that goal, and now you would be tackling another goal.
Be successful this year! If you want to change something about yourself or your lifestyle, you need to set yourself up for success. Being able to achieve success means that you need to come up with a plan. Don't just say I'm going to lose 20 lb. You need to come up with a systematic way and plan of actually achieving your goal. You need to write it down because prior planning prevents poor
performance.
Once you have that plan laid out, execute that plan. Nobody said it's going to be easy. If it were easy, everybody would be in great shape. But you absolutely have the power within you. You're strong enough, you're smart enough, you're fast enough, and you're resilient enough to accomplish what you set your mind
to.
Accomplishing your goals starts with that one thing, however. You need to take care of yourself and get yourself into better shape physically. It's probably the one thing that will transcend every single element in every aspect of your life. When you like the person you see looking back at you in the mirror, it allows you to be more confident and fulfill many more areas of your life.
When you're in better shape, you stand up a little taller. You also interact with people a little bit better, and you're a better husband, a better father, a better coworker, and simply a better person. And it all starts with taking that step.
So at the beginning of this new year, we need to start fresh. But don't fail. And if you do fall down, get yourself right back up. There is no harm, and there is no shame by falling off the wagon or screwing up. The shame is when you don't get back on the horse.
I believe in you, and I know that you can do it! Pinpoint one goal and then execute that one thing. You've got this!
