It's bright, sunny, and getting warm here in Atlanta, Georgia. And it is definitely time for shorts! So, I got an email the other day from a viewer about how he can put together some badass outfits with shorts & shirts, but he never knows what shoes to wear.
He said that the other day he had this great outfit and went to put on his shoes, and he was like, "Dude, I got to wear my tennis shoes?" No, don't do that to yourself! Gentlemen, I'm here to answer this question today by talking about the different shoe options you have when wearing shorts.
Alright, so the first summer shoe option is the flip-flop or thong. It is an excellent option for those of you who just want to slip something on real quick to go and hang out. They keep the top of your feet pretty much exposed, so make sure your feet, toes, and toenails are in check. Currently, I’m digging the brand Rainbow with a sleeker design, a little bit slimmer construction, and the
bottom is not so big & bulky. Also, the strap is a little bit more subtle too. I feel that it looks a little bit more aesthetically pleasing than big bulky flip flops, but that's just me. Anyway, the simple leather flip-flop is an option for shorts.
Now, regarding sandals, my style skin crawls when I see big bulky mandals that have exposed toes. I would recommend a sandal that covers your toes and is understated. The sandal should feature thinner leather & sole and is not massive overall. The sandal should be streamlined.
The next summer shoe to pair with shorts is the fashion sneakeror the minimal white leather sneaker. Something sleek and a little bit more streamlined is what you're looking for. You definitely want to stay away from athletic shoes. I see many guys wearing athletic shoes with big baggy shorts -- and it's not for me; that's not my style. The alternative is the fashion sneaker
or minimal white leather sneaker as they're sleek and stylish.
If you're not going to wear socks with these, I suggest you try no-show socks. No-show socks are crucial to pulling off the look. But if you don't stay in them all day and you don't want to wear socks, sprinkle some baby powder inside the shoes when you're done. But, if you've got stinky feet, definitely do not wear these without socks. There are many different brands out
there, but my current love affair is with Suit Supply’s leather sneakers!
Another option to wear with your shorts is the driving moccasin. This is my go-to option when I want to dress up a pair of shorts. I wear them without socks, and they are available in black and brown, with Cole Haan being my choice of brand. The driving moc is comfortable and durable, lasting for a long time. Their simple design looks good with various of ensembles from casual shorts to dress
shorts, worn day into night for practically any occasion. Pair with a great belt and button-up shirt or a v-neck tee shirt as a great option -- you can even wear them with jeans.
Okay, so this last option for summer footwear that I'm going to discuss is boat shoes. As long-time viewers know, I don't own any. I get asked all the time what I think of them, and I am always frank. I've seen them look really good; I've seen them look really bad. It's up to your personal preference. I prefer a flip-flop, fashion sneaker, and driving moccasin over the boat shoes, but some
people love them. They're really popular with younger guys these days, and you know what, some of these guys pull them off really well. Personally, I'm not going to go for them, but they are an option and can work well with shorts. Also, be sure to wear them without socks. Check out Sperry.
It's getting warmer out there -- and soon, it will be hot. Make sure your footwear is on-point, appropriate, and looking summer stylish!
Alpha M. POST of the
WEEK
So I remember throughout my forties and up until about five years ago I was lost in my style. I know I sought out the advice like Aaron with I Am Alpha M. and other YouTube style advisers had
to offer and relearned the basics and recreated my style again! I had always been a stylish man when I was younger, but after getting married and becoming a father, style seems to go out the window! I don’t know if this happened to any other of you older gentlemen is this group, but it certainly did to me.
Now that I’ve regained my own sense of style, I’ve been more willing to take chances in life and some of you may have witnessed my emerging modeling career. Let me know if any of you have experienced anything like this in your life! I’d like to hear about your challenges and what you’ve done to overcome them with your style. I’m not expecting anyone to feel the need to become a model to feel good about themselves, but for me, modeling did give me some validation that
I had made a turn in the right direction! Good luck to you all in whatever you’re trying to achieve!
