Sweating. Everyone does it -- some more than others. Sweating keeps us from getting overheated, so we sweat when we’re physically active, like during exercise, and when we are nervous, like on a date or job interview. I’m often asked for advice on how to control and deal with sweat, which we all know can interfere with life – so here are my tips about which
clothes are best to wear if / when sweating and how to reduce sweating.
WHAT TO WEAR Here's how to dress for sweat -- or rather, to minimize sweating. Basically, you want to wear clothing that breathes. Typically, these clothing items are made of natural material like cotton, allowing airflow to circulate from your skin to the outside of the clothing and vice versa. Breathable fabrics will keep you cooler and allow perspiration to evaporate. Also, look for
athletic clothing made of wicking fabrics that are water-resistant and wick sweat away from the body.
Next, specific colors and patternscan disguise sweat stains or make them less noticeable. Choose pure white, black, navy, and dark colors. Patterned clothing masks sweat and stains because of the pattern’s various shades and textures, making moisture less obvious.
WHAT NOT TO WEAR Avoiding wearing any light colors because sweating changes their color and makes the wet area more noticeable. Although silk is a natural fabric, avoid wearing it because it doesn’t hold up well to moisture and stains easily. Two other fabrics to avoid, although they’re made of cotton, are flannel and corduroy. These fabrics are hot and will most likely cause you to sweat too much. Synthetic materials such as nylon, polyester, &
poly-blends should also be avoided because of their inability to breathe and thus causing even more sweating than typical.

Use an antiperspirant + deodorant. And if you can’t find an all-in-one, use both. Antiperspirants reduce or prevent sweating, while deodorants mask odor.Â
Use a cornstarch-based powder, like Chassis, to absorb moisture on problem areas.Â
Drink lots of water to control body temperature and reduce sweating. Likewise, avoid drinking hot beverages during hot, humid weather because you will sweat more.
Wear a hat when out in the sun to keep your head cool.
Dress for sweat-- use the tips discussed earlier in my newsletter.
Lose weight + stay fit
Reduce stress to reduce sweat with deep breathing, yoga, tai chi, meditation.
Wear breathable cotton socksto avoid foot odor from sweating. Also, use foot deodorizers, corn starch, baking soda, charcoal odor-eaters to help eliminate foot moisture and odor. I also recommend rotating shoes, which allows shoes to breathe in between being
worn.
If you think you sweat too much and can’t get it under control, speak with your doctor to rule out any underlying problem.Â
Dealing with sweating can be very challenging, but you’re not alone! Take a breath, relax, and don’t sweat the small stuff. Perspiration does not have to get in the way of living your best life!
