Way back in my early YouTube days, I published content including skits & comedy that was foul-mouthed and coarse because I thought being quirky in a vulgar way was funnier. But when I watched the videos later, I realized how bad using profane language is and how bad it made me look. It was a turn-off... and it wasn’t funny. Plus, those who thought it was actually funny were the younger
kids— not good. Overall, not a good look for someone trying to help men become gentlemanly, self-confident, and alpha.
Why did I take that direction? Well, I've talked in the past about how I was trying to figure out what would be popular for my channel when I started YouTube. I was looking to some of these more prominent YouTubers like Shane Dawson that were acting out skits, performing comedy, and being outlandish, rude, & ignorant. This content got people popular back in the day, so I thought I needed
to do that too -- so some of this and some of that, some bad and some worse than others. But I deleted the majority of my earliest videos because the videos were just too terrible.
Viewers posted comments saying that I was funny enough to get my message across without foul language. But other comments pointed out that my throwing around f-bombs was cringe-worthy. As a result, I did some soul-searching and concluded that bad language does not mean you’re funny, nor does it mean that a message gets across more effectively because of it. It’s quite the opposite, actually –
the more profanity that’s spouted off, the less you’re taken seriously. Some of the early days of the Alpha M YouTube channel were horrible, which is a testament to 'anything is possible' because my channel changed course and found its way.
How many of you out there know somebody who has a really foul mouth? They use profanity like it is an art. They're dropping the f-bomb like it's a comma. I know people like that, and I am pretty sure that you know people like that as well. So, if you are one of those people who use profanity and think it's funny to curse all the time, we really need to start working on cutting it out.
Nothing makes you seem less intelligent, less educated, and less of a gentleman than using profanity regularly. It’s a real quick way to lose total credibility. You don’t need to curse to be funny or get your point across. You can absolutely express yourself in a dignified, credible, and respectable way without using profanity. Refraining from cursing applies to written communication such as
social media or when verbally speaking to someone.
You may cuss around your buddies, or at work, or in other situations when you don’t ‘need’ to. Take a moment and realize that you’re doing it. To be a successful communicator, you need to have people take you seriously. So if you are constantly using bad language or foul words in your daily conversation, people will associate you with that.
If you have a potty-mouth, clean it up. Don’t wait. Clean it up now. You may need your friends and family to help you out by pointing out when you do it – pop you in the leg or pay them a dollar, for example. Whatever the situation, you can do it.
The moral to the story is that your words are powerful, and your choice of words and your dialect in your language are absolutely crucial to you being perceived as the alpha male that we're trying to create. We need to be present and the best person possible, and your language is an incredibly powerful tool to get the world to see the beautiful person you are.
